As I enjoyed  a quiet evening in last night I took a phone call from a charity I support thanking me for my donation all of which left me feeling quite good about myself until they asked if I would consider leaving them something in my will. Suddenly I felt a great deal older and more vunerable, I know I have a birthday coming up but lets not get too hasty.

Maybe more important than where I intend to leave my possessions is what am I doing with my today, certainly got me thinking. The parable of the talents is one which constantly challenges me, the three servants are left money and on the masters return asked what they have done with what they have been given. And there lies the question what are we doing with what we have been given? The first two used their abilities , took a risk and did their best, the last one however which I have some sympathy with, was too scared to risk it and did nothing.
God gives us talents, he asks us to use our gifts for him, what am I doing with what I have been given?

"The master was furious. 'That's a terrible way to live! It's criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.

"'Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this "play-it-safe" who won't go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.'

Matthew 25:26-30
