22 February 2012

I always associate the 22nd February with Thinking Day, when as a child we used to wear our brownie uniform to school and we were supposed to think about other brownies and guides around the world. At that time there was appeal about not having to wear school uniform for a day although thinking back I was really just swapping one uniform for another. Still at the time it was a big thing and did I really take time to think about other brownies?- not so sure.

But is still a great concept I think, and maybe one that becomes more meaningful as an adult. To take a day and take a moment, to stop all the usual busyness and to think and pray for others in this world., The news from Syria gets worse, and yesterday stories of children in Afghanistan dying from cold filled the bulletins. It can seem daunting but still the world needs prayers- maybe today on the first day of Lent, and thinking day this is the time to start.

'Rejoice always,  pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances' i Thessalonians 5:16-18
