30 September 2010 Plans

As I walked the dog this morning I realised that most of my thoughts had been taken up by planning, planning the day ahead, the rest of the week, the next month and even beginning to make plans for Christmas and New Year. Now I find it difficult to know what to do here, because when we have families, work, people relying on us it is a good thing to plan otherwise there may be no clean clothes ,food in the fridge, etc. yet Jesus seems to want us to be open to what he has to say and what he puts before us each day.

So I am left thinking that there might be a compromise, planning what is essential but leaving space to be in the moment, to see what is around me and to be flexible to the needs of others, because plans and schedules can become so burdensome in themselves that we forget to enjoy what we have planned and just dash on to the next thing. I suppose once again I come back to his prayer;

"Give us this day our daily bread" Matthew 6 vs 11
