I really like the film Pretty Woman probably because I love a happy , fairytale ending and I was reminded of a scene in it where the hero asks Julia Robertson why she doesn't believe in herself and she responds that we always hear the negative voices more loudly than the positive.

I think that is so true and I was reminded of it this week when a friend of mine was flattened by some very negative critisism. What is it about us that takes heed of the negatives and gives them more weight than the positives?

 

It is so easy to put ourselves down and tell ourselves that what we do is not worthwhile , yet in the bible we are told very clearly that God loved us while we were still in the womb, that he created us and knows us faults and all ,yet still loved us enough to send his son on a cross for us.

 

Perhaps we should pray that it  is this voice we hear above all the others, the voice that says

" 'Well done, good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25 vs 21
