23 September 2010 Thomas

I heard recently that Thomas the Doubter is the patron saint of opticians loosely because of the connection to his trouble with seeing, which I thought was quite funny.

But I have much in common with Thomas, I too find it hard to believe without proof and I wonder had it been me that Christ appeared to, would I have had the same reaction. I get quite annoyed with myself over this because there are a lot of things I do trust without seeing.

I trust that a small plastic box of electronics in my car will take to the right address even when I have no idea where I am. I trust my kids (kinda!) that they will be where they say they are. I trust that a large metal box several thousand feet in the air will carry me over land and sea when I travel. Somehow I find it easy to trust these things yet difficult to trust a God whose promises again and again that he will not let me down and who has never yet let me down.

I wish it were not so.
