21 September 2010 From God or Man?
Over the last week we have been surrounded by coverage commentary and
discussion of the Pope's visit to the UK.It has put Christianity in the
forefront once more and not always for the best reasons. With some of
the spectacle, security and formality which surrounded the visit, I am
left comparing it with the simplicity of Jesus' ministry of how he
walked and lived amongst ordinary people.
As I read this passage this morning I was challenged to consider the question How much of what we do in our churches, of all faiths, is from God and how much has been created by man? Jesus was aware of it in his life and we should be too.
"These people honour me with their lips,
But their hearts are far from me..
They worship me in vain;
Their teachings are but rules taught by men."
You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."
