15 September 2010 Bread of Life

I was thinking more about yesterday's thought when Jesus spoke about the bread of life and I wondered if we often hear these words and know they are powerful but are not quite sure what they mean. Perhaps it was not surprising that at that point the crowd who had followed him having enjoyed the miracle of the loaves and fishes shuffled a bit and headed off. We enjoyed the spectacle but what was he going on about now?

My belief is that he is telling them and us that in the same way bread is necessary for our physical body to survive, God is essential in our lives. The crowd having enjoyed the idea that they will never be hungry again ask him what they need to do and Jesus reply struck me forcibly today,"believe in the one he has sent."

That's it, no special effort, no points system  only believe in Jesus.

So here he is giving us the answer to happiness , telling us what will make us complete and it won't cost us a penny.

"Then they asked him,"What must we do to do the works God requires?"

Jesus answered,"The work of God is this;to believe in the one he has sent." John 6 vs 24-71
