14 September 2010 Happiness

This morning's news carried a report about two men who had taken a year out to travel and research what made people happy, none of it seemed really news but I was smiling when they described a millionaire they had interviewed in Dubai who said his happiest moment was when he bought his first yacht and it lasted until he took delivery at the marina, then spotted the much bigger more expensive model beside his and suddenly his yacht no longer made him happy.

Not many of us get to compare yachts but the feeling is one we can recognise, because how ever much we have we always see something better. Thousands of years ago Jesus spoke of just this issue that the things of this world will always leave us hungry and only by believing in him and trying to follow his ways will truly satisfy.

"I am the bread of life," Jesus told them."Those who come to me will never be hungry;those who believe in me will never be thirsty." John 6 vs 35
