13 September 2010 Journeys
Several years ago I did the West Highland way in Scotland with friends, a
fantastic hike from Glasgow to Fort William around 95 miles. We had a
great time and it took us in ,a variety of weathers and adventures, five
days, however when we caught the bus back it took almost the same route
back through Glencoe and we reached the centre of Glasgow in two hours.
I was thinking of this on holiday as we passed a group of pilgrims making their way from Canterbury to Rome over several months when we had just taken an Easyjet flight of an hour and a half. Yet I know how much richer their lives will be by taking time out to walk and reflect, to slow down ,to see and small and experience every part of that journey.
There are different ways to journey , the but inner journey we make is the most important, and the one which involves time for contemplation is more likely to change the traveller for the better.
