1 July 2010 Impossible
I was just reading about Nehemiah in the Old Testament and his rebuilding of the city wall of Jerusalem. It caught my attention for two reasons, one that Nehemiah simply started with a conviction that this was what had to be done and although the obstacles were huge he got on with it and improvised his way through until he succeeded.Nehemiah justbelieved that God would make this possible and in complete trust and not much else he set about it.
So often when I look at a task I see so many problems stacked up that I give up before I start, because it is all about trust isn't it?I have no reason not to trust, quite the opposite, God has done the impossible many times in my lifebut somehow when faced with the next thing I forget and panic all overagain.
The second reason it caught my attention was reading PhilipYancey's comment on Nehemiah. He says
"He does not act without prayer, and he does not pray without acting."
Andthat my friends is how we should start.
"Ask and it will begiven to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be openedto you. For everyone whoasks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door willbe opened." Matthew 7 vs 7-8
