29 June 2010 Lights Out

Unfortunately over the weekend we had a major problem with our electricity which involved the electricity company digging up the road to find the fault from around 10am on Sunday to 4am on Monday, they are complete stars to have worked so hard in temperatures of over 30 degrees and to have missed the football into the bargain, but that is another story.

As the sun went down on Saturday and Sunday night we relied on the use of lamps and candles to get around in the darkness, and I especially enjoyed how   as the sun grew dimmer  the light of the candle grew stronger until it was the most important utensil in the room. Such a small item was able to cast the strongest light and was the means by which we made it to bed without walking into doors or each other.

The bible talks of the word of God acting as just such a light, it is  a powerful image, that as we find ourselves confused and lost in this world, God has a word for us to light up our path and show us the way home.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
