21 June 2010 Shortcuts

I was speaking to a lady this week who when out walking her dog had taken a short cut and become completely lost, taking two hours to finish her normal half hour walk. A long way for a short cut as the saying says.

Shortcuts are everywhere now if you think about it, on our desktops we have shortcuts to help avoid the searching through files, cookery books have shortcuts to help with the cooking, and i was delighted to find when I recently bought some Ikea curtains for the girls room some sticky web hemming to save me having to sew.

Yet I do wonder what we do with all this time saved?

Somethings we can't shortcut, relationships need time to develop and grow, we need to spend time  in each other's company to build the basis , and it is true also of faith. In order to learn more about God and build a relationship, in order to trust and grow in faith we need to take the time to be still, to read his word, to listen in silence and to pray. Without this input I know I too can become hopelessly lost.

"Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practised in your spare time.Don't fall for that stuff even though crowds of people do. The way to life-to God-is vigorous and requires total attention." Matthew 7 vs                 The Message
