10 June 2010 Truth

Paul talks about armouring ourselves for whatever we may face in the world , and the first thing he refers to is truth."With truth as a belt around your waist"

I'm not sure exactly what purpose the belt served in Paul's time, but if it is anything like today's it would have held things together;basic but essential. Because it seems to me that is what truth is. Last night I watched a programme about President Nixon which demonstrated how lies and intrigue brought a presidency and a man to his knees, lies seem to do that, they hurt the person who is betrayed by them and they hurt the person telling them.

For us to build anything in this world we need to be able to trust in what is true and Paul it seemed recognised how crucial that was. We can't control how others behave but we can make sure we tell the truth. And Paul points further to one who is truth itself , to Jesus.
