19 May 2010 What do you want?

I was reading over a job description yesterday for a post I am about to start, and it came with a clear list of what was expected from me. As I read it I thought in contrast how confusing it can become to try and work out what God expects of us. I am convinced the confusion is not on God's part but on ours as we listen to mixed messages from so many sources of what it means to follow Christ. We have our parent's voices with their interpretation, the voice of our churches and religiousinstitutions with its rainbow of diversity in belief and practise, and our own voices telling us how to live ,which assimilate all the others and add our particular agenda. No wonder it is confusing.

Today however I came across a clear and simple motto that God gave to Micah the prophet. As the kingdom of  Judah was asking how to please God what did God want , Micah told them that God denounced offerings and giftssacrifices and all the outward trappings of religion and simple asks for this

"He has told you, O man,what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?." Micah 6vs 8
