17 May 2010 A Helping Hand

Last week while I sat in my car waiting , I was watching a mum with two young kids who was obviously at the end of her tether. Whatever the children had done she lost her temper and started shouting at them, which made them create all the more and the situation went downhill from there. We have all been there ,when you just cannot cope with any more and something inside explodes, I felt very sorry for her. Once she had the children inside the car however to my surprise, she clasped her hands together and prayed.

None of this was any of my business of course and I felt uncomfortable watching such  private moments but i did think about it a lot afterward and here are my thoughts;

When that mum prayed it was in desperation, honest and raw , sometimes the best kind of prayers. No convoluted phrases or polished performance but a real cry for help.

I was also impressed that at that moment of crisis, she turned to God, how many times do I reach a  crisis and do a million other things before I take it to God.

And lastly it reminded me to look out for people, to see the signs that they are struggling and offer some help  to lift their burden before it gets to that stage, parents, grandparents, teenagers we can all use a little support.
