6 May 2010 Election Day

When you are reading this it will be election day, and after long weeks of campaigns and media coverage we get to make  our cross on the paper. This time around I think it has been a very difficult choice, not least because we are in the midst of difficult times and it seems to require a whole new set of policies and leadership to steer a painful course over the next few years.

That it is important to vote, I have no doubt, but who to vote for... well that is another issue.

When Solomon became king he was visited by God in a dream and God asked

"Ask for whatever you want me to give you."

Solomon answered "Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish right from wrong."

Today will be noisy there will be many voices and opinions telling us what we should do, we will all face difficult choices, but some of our churches are open and it seems fitting today to spend a few moments in these quiet places to pray for a discerning heart and a wise choice.

What better prayer could we have for the government which is formed whoever they may be than to use the words of Solomon

"Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish right from wrong." 1 Kings 3 vs 9
