22 March 2010 Investing

I was reading a book recently which made reference to the Bernie Madoff scandal in the States, a case you may remember where people thought their money was being invested when in fact it was only being given out to the next person disguised as returns, and as bait for the next wealthy person to invest. the same money was going around and around taken in and given out again and again. The scheme fell apart however when everyone wanted their monay at the same time and it became clear there was nothing to give.

It occurred to me that sometimes that is how we can be with our faith, if we do not actually invest the time to grow and develop then we are drawing on the same resources again and again in this life and when something happens there is not enough to sustain us. We need to make sure our faith is rooted deep, that we read God's word and take time to build that relationship then when we really need it, when we are suffering, facing the problems in our lives, that relationship will sustain us.

"He is like a man who, in building his house, dug deep and laid his foundation on rock. The river overflowed and hit that house but could not shake it because it was well built." Luke 6 vs 48
