12 January 2010 Lamps and Light

This week it seems as if things are getting back to some sort of normality, around us the roads are clear, the schools are open ,the holiday is over and life can settle back into its normal routine, but what then was it all about, what did the fuss and fury around Christmas change?

Its a gloomy Tuesday morning, in a dark time of the year. Getting up early in the cold and dark can make us miserable and tired before we even start. However this morning I read a passage  from Matthew that made me sit up and think again, "You are the light of the world.... let your light shine before men." If I truly believe that Christmas was the celebration of Christ coming into this world in human form to live here amongst humanity, then I need to act on it.I need to show others the same love, that he shows me and whether it is the shop assistant, the passerby , or members of my family, I need to spread some light. It is so easy to slump back and grumble with the rest but I need to be reminded to shine my light, not for my glory but for his.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way,let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5 vs 14-16
