24 December 2009 Celebrate

In the midst of today, in the midst of my last minute preparations I am taking a few moments to transport myself to another land and another time, to a silent night in Bethlehem where a mother waits to give birth to her baby.

I can't imagine that those present could have any idea that thousands of years later this event would still be so important, that people around the world would continue to celebrate this day and that its impact would change the lives of millions down through the ages. But God knew....

God knew that we needed this baby, that we still do. For many people it is hard to believe the events of this night, sometimes I don't fully understand what is going on, but in the stillness with my own doubts and fears and worries, whatever else I may wonder about  I know that there is a God who loves me and you so much that he  sent his son to be with us.What a reason to celebrate.

"Do not be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Saviour was born- Christ the Lord" Luke 2 vs 10-11
