18 December 2009 Ready

So I am waiting on the snow now, I am ready for it.

I am the worst snow driver around please take note if you see me, I find it terrifying so I drive very slowly and hesitantly and actually avoid it if I can. This being the case, whenever I am warned of snow I get prepared, so I now have enough groceries to last until March 1st, and am prepared to stay in until it is over. The beauty of course of our information overload is that I can confidently expect the snow to start sometime around 6pm Thursday evening.

Now I expect also that if I knew Jesus was going to come back to this world at a certain time and date I would be equally ready, but there is no such information, just the knowledge that he will, and the warning to remain prepared. This I am not so sure I have done.

I was thinking today about people's reaction as they started feel that something was happening. Elizabeth had a child when she was well past childbearing age, Zecharaih lost his voice until he named his son John and then it was returned to him, and Mary was expecting although she had never been with a man. After a long wait for the Messiah and nothing, suddenly something was happening. Did people believe it, did they prepare? If it happened today would I believe, would I get ready, or would I be too busy to be bothered?

"Be on your guard then, because you do not know the day or the hour."

Matthew 25 vs 13
