17 December 2009 Christmas Lunch

Christmas for most of us is not a time we will be hungry I think! Iwatched yet another Christmas cooking special last night as anotherturkey was stuffed and another table laden with goodies. I was inspiredthen to make up my food shopping list for the holiday knowing deep downthat we will never consume that much food, there would be enough therefor the month let alone Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and when did itsuddenly become crucial to have chestnuts, something I am happy toignore for the rest of the 364 days.

But in fact there willbe many people hungry at Christmas, on this occasion I do not meanthose who are literally starving, but many wealthy westerners who willeat and consume till we are fit to burst and still feel somethingmissing, an absence of peace, a lack of fulfillment. In Mary's song ofPraise she sings

"He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away with empty hands." Luke 1 vs53

Ifwe are looking for God, if we are hungry to find him then he promisesthat we will be filled, how much better to to hunger after God thanafter Christmas lunch.
