Yesterday as I stood in the supermarket amidst the noise and clamour I heard above the din the strains of silent night.

At first I was struck by the incongruity of the holy scene and the shopping madness and immediately wanted to run for somewhere quiet and holy. However it did get me thinking.

 

For what did the shepherds do after they had been to the stable, I bet they went right back to being shepherds, right back to living in their world, probably never the same again but back with the sheep.

 

We live in this world and although it is right and good to take time to come into God's presence in quiet and holy places, we have to exist in this world and what's more we have to serve God where we are.So it was lovely to escape to the stable with the strains of the carol, but equally good to get back to the shopping knowing God meets us wherever we are.
