24 November 2009 Inner Me

As I went to buy my usual face cream today, the girl behind the counter announced with enthusiasm that now they had developed a way to make the cream anti wrinkle. I don't think she meant to offend.

We are bombarded with ways to fight off the aging process, cosmetics, diet, exercise and surgery but in the end we do all age and I'm not sure I want to waste too much energy and resources investing in trying to hold back the inevitable.

Maybe I want to spend my time investing in the part that will last, in my relationship with God, in what difference I might make to this world, and in changing to become closer to the person God wants me to be.

In his book "When the game is over it all goes back in the box" Jon Ortberg writes

"Be grateful for the outer you. Come to peace with your body. Rejoice in its strength, accept it in its limitations. Be grareful for it.Wash it every once in a while.Let it work hard. Be happy when it gets promoted but remember its wasting away. The inner you, on the other hand is capable of a glory that right now you cannot even imagine."

Amen to that
