11 November 2009 Good Days

Recently I was passing a church which advertised its Sunday sermon with the title
"King David on a good day". Sadly I never got to hear the sermon, but I loved the title and am stealing it for today's thought.

King David is one of the Old Testament giants, he defeats Goliath withnothing more than a sling, goes on to capture Jerusalem and sets up adynasty, a King against which other Kings are measured, whose name ispraised and revered for generations to come- on a good day.

On his not so good days his reign is a bloody one, he commits adultery and murder and creates a highly dysfunctional family.

So what makes his days good or bad? Quite simply the days he listens toGod and follows his will are the good ones and when he goes off on hisown agenda it all falls apart. We are not so very different, the days Ifeel complete and satisfied , the days when I actually change the worldaround me for the better are the ones where I have listened to God anddone his bidding in things both large and small. The others days arebest not revisited.

"and from that day on, the spirit of the Lord came upon David in power" 1 Samuel16 vs 13
