What is in a name?
Lots apparently! Names are very important as the PM is discoveringtoday having written a letter of condolance to the mother of a soldier killed in Afghanistan and using the wrong name. Mistakes can be made but it does highlight how important names are.
Having visited a lot of churches in the last few years I would say the single most important thing we can do to welcome our visitors is to memorise their names, for it is only when someone calls you by name that you feel you truly belong.
When Moses meets God at the burning bush, he asks God what name he should use when he speaks to Pharaoh
"God said to Moses "I Am who I Am , that is what you are to say to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you." Exodus 3 vs 14
Gos is using his name as the name above all other Gods, a name to be remembered from generation to generation.
Our names too are important setting us apart, giving us an identity. To take the time to know someone by name is a small but important way of showing how much you value them.
