23 October 2009 Home
This weekend we drive back to Scotland where we will spend a few daysbefore moving out finally of our house and handing over the keys toanother family. For anyone who has moved house there is always astrange feeling as you look around for the last time and are floodedwith events and memories of your life in that place.
I have no doubt tears will be shed, but having moved a few times over the last three years I am convinced of three things
Firstly in itself a house is nothing, what makes it home is family and friends and the life which goes on within its walls.
Secondly that if our lives are built on God, then we are home, forwhenever we are trying to do his will and in a relationship with himthen we are home.
Thirdly, that he never leaves us, no matter where we go if we are ready to turn to God he will be waiting.
Abraham left everything and travelled he knew not where, but because hetrusted God to keep his promises. Only in being challenged to leavewhat I had always called home, did I come to realise what home reallymeans.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled.Believe in God,believe also inme.In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so ,would Ihave told you that I go to prepare a place for you?And if I go toprepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, sothat where I am ,there you may be also." John 14 vs 1-3
