16 October 2009 Challenge
Are there situations in our lives where we live with the status quo even although we know it is wrong?
Sometimes the challenge to change things can be just so big that it seems it is just not worth it, or so scary we cannot begin to make the change. The story continues to have ripple effects of the mother who took her own and her daughter's life rather than face the continued harassment from local kids, could it have been different if someone had spoken out and acted differently?
I am thinking today of the story of Jesus clearing the temple, no-one had dared to take action although they knew it was wrong, but it suited those in power and anyone trying to change things would have suffered dreadful consequences, no wonder they were scared.
Jesus challenges us to do the right thing, even when we are scared, even when it seems that nothing can make a difference, it challenges me to think of the things in my life I may need to take a stand on, but following Christ was never meant to be an easy option.
"Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves."
Matthew 21 vs 12
