9 October 09 Sorry
"Sorry seems to be the hardest word"
The words of a song which probably dates me, but a sentiment I agree with.
This week I received through the post an official letter blaming me for a missed appointment, yet one which I knew I had already cancelled and rescheduled. When I called I was told to disregard the letter, but no-one actually apologised.
On the other hand after being in a thoroughly bad mood yesterday evening I knew I should apologise to my long suffering husband, but I found it really hard to do.
If we want to be forgiven however, we do first need to be able to say sorry, to repent for whatever it is we have done wrong and this, although it can be so hard to do, is often the first step to letting God in.
Children are very good at saying sorry, and, as loving parents we are always ready to forgive, move on and wipe the slate clean. They feel better and we feel better for it. Why would we think it would be different for our heavenly Father?
Sorry may be one of the hardest words but it is also one of the most worthwhile.
"Truly I tell you, unless you repent and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven." Matthew 18 vs 3
