6 October 09 Running

Yesterday when we were walking the dog, she ran after a bird and managed to get lost for a few minutes. Nothing serious as she came back but enough to panic us. My daughter suggested I take running away as a theme for this thought which seemed a good idea.

For often we do run away, from things we know we need to be doing, after dinner my daughters seem to magically disappear just when I need the dishes done, and likewise I am good at running away from the piles of ironing in favour of jobs I much prefer.

Jonah ran away from God when he was asked to go to Ninevah, but eventually, in the same way that I track down my girls to wash up, God kept on after Jonah until he had no option but to go to Ninevah.
When God is calling us it is always best to listen and do what he is asking because we cannot hide from him, and no matter how much we don't want to go in the direction he is taking us, it is always the direction that is right for us, and the one, that when we look back, we will wish we had taken long ago.

"Where can I go from your spirit, where can I flee from your presence?"
Psalm 139
