14 September 09 Failure

Today the news is full of references to last years  and  failure of the banking system. I was thinking this morning about the term failure, and how that feels. I think in everyone's lives if they are honest there is a time when they make a real mess of something and it is the most horrible feeling. That anxiety in the pit of your stomach, a sense of shame, of guilt and of wanting to hide until it is all forgotten about.

There is a danger however that we do hide away, that when we get it wrong we never try again so filled are we with self doubt.  Peter perhaps must have felt the greatest sense of failure in the history of humanity. He denied Jesus three times, yet to this man was given the mission to build the church, because it was not about his failure or achievement,it was about his love for Jesus.

When we truly trust and love God he can make us fit for wonderful things and accept our failures along the way.

"After they had eaten,Jesus said to Simon Peter,"Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?"

"Yes Lord,"he answered,"you know that I love you."

Jesus said to him"Take care of my lambs."
