2 September 09 Noah

On rereading the story of Noah and the Ark recently I was left wondering over two things. The first was that after the floods had subsided, after all that Noah had gone through, the first thing he did on reaching dry land was to build an alter and offer a sacrifice to God, in other words to say thank you. I was considering how I react after the crisis is past, after the big event, is giving thanks the first thing I do or do I just race onto the next thing?

If I had been Noah, the sheer weight of being the founder of the new world would have had me making plans and fretting over how best to do things, which animals to put where etc, but Noah builds an alter and says "Thank you God". Noah understands that nothing can be done without God's help and that with that help the impossible can be done, and he is grateful. I pray for his awareness of how much God has given us and how important it is to acknowledge it. As for the second thing I wondered about , more tomorrow...

"So Noah went out of the boat with his wife, his sons and their wives. All the animals and birds went out of the boat in groups of their own kind.Noah built an alter to the Lord;"
Genesis 9 vs 18-20
