31 August 09 Noises Off
It seems so simple, the idea that we begin each day listening to God
and his purpose for us that day and I do try hard to do it, but in all
honesty sometimes there is just so much noise I fail to hear his voice.
For me there are two types of noise, firstly external, the buzz of this busy world with its phones, emails and media but I find it easier to shut that off just by walking the dog in the fields or finding a quiet space. Harder to shut out for me is the internal noise, a nagging guilt over something I did or should have done, a lingering worry for events I have no control over, the voices that tell me I need to get on and do the next thing.
Jesus long ago recognised that some of us would experience such noise and asks us to be aware of it , to pray about it and to leave it there, thus allowing us the most wonderful freedom to hear and act on his word. It may take time and practice, but I know it is worth persevering to reach the stage where his voice becomes louder and clearer.
"The seeds that fell among thorn bushes stand for those who hear the message; but worries about this life and the love of riches choke the message , and they don't bear fruit."
Matthew 13 vs 22
