28 August 2009 Judgement

Last night I caught the end of a programme the Incense trail. The journalist was interviewing the Head of police(I think) in the square where public executions are still carried out. The man was explaining that now the decision is left to the victim's family whether they have the offender beheaded or released and I was thinking what a terrible descision to have to take.

But I was also reminded of another square thousands of years ago where there was no decision to be made, if a woman was caught in adultery she was stoned, that was the law. I could imagine the crowd there to participate , it was what they were used to and although we may be squeamish about it,they would have firmly believed this was the right thing to do and into this walked Jesus.
What a controversial step to take, not to uphold the law, but to bring in another dimension,
"Whichever of you has committed no sin may throw the first stone at her." John 8 vs 7

Such was his authority the crowd stopped in their task, and despite the weight of the law  turned and walked away.

Sometimes I need to be stopped and reminded that there is another way, and  more importantly that I have no platform from which to judge others.
