27 August 2009 Small Acts

At the beginning of our holiday this year we hit some travel problems. I was travelling with my two daughters and after hours of delay our connecting flight was finally cancelled leaving us stranded overnight in a strange place , hungry and very tired having been awake at this point longer than is natural for the human body.

In a dazed state I was attempting to book a hotel room  and looking around for a meal for us that did not involve sandwiches or airline snacks, when one of the airport staff approached me and with the cheerful greeting of "You girls look like you could use some pizza" went into the nearest sandwich bar and organised pizza for us all. At that time, in that place I felt as if an angel had arrived. Having organised our meal he got us transport to the hotel and helped with our bags and refused a tip for all of this saying " Just happy to help, may God bless you and your family."

Jerry in Charlotte airport will probably never know the impact of his small deeds of kindness, but for us at that time, they meant everything. We may never know the impact of what we do but however small an act we should never hesitate to do it, it may just change lives.

"In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your father in heaven." Matthew 5 vs 16
