30 July 2009 So last month
Today I went shopping with the girls to find swimsuits, and maybe I was
in the wrong places, but the shops were full of Autumn ranges and what
was left was in small corners at the back, along with all the other
summer sale stuff. So what logic is there, that finishes with summer in
the middle of July just when the schools have stopped, seems like we
have already moved onto the next thing.
I clearly am not a retailer and no doubt smarter marketeers than I, have research and figures to support this strategy, but it does seem a measure of our lives today that we are always rushing on to the next thing. We seem constantly to be making our plans for tomorrow without ever stopping to enjoy today, yet today has so much to offer us.
When Jesus was teaching he probably gave no thought to schedules, but if he was stopped by someone in need of healing, or asked to visit someone who was sick, he went with no thought for how that threw out the diary. How much more will we gain from each day if we can only focus on the moment.
"This is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118 vs 24
