When I used to teach I once wrote a report card for a pupil who had not
handed in work, and informed his parents that two pieces of work were
still outstanding. At parent's night I was greeted by two beaming
parents proud to know that although other teachers had been critical of
their son, I had found his work outstanding. I felt so bad for them
when I had to explain what I really meant and have been careful ever
since in my use of words.
As we come to the end of term this week, I hope parents have been impressed by the right kind of outstanding work. Maybe from time to time we can all ask ourselves whether our day has been spend as an outstanding example of God's glory or whether we just left his work outstanding.
"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life."
