13 July 2009 Waiting

Last week my mum was unexpectedly taken into hospital and I spent the week waiting for the results of tests. Waiting can  be horrible, whether for medical results, exam results, news on jobs
it is stressful, because there is nothing you can do, no action you can take until you know the outcome.

At such times I think the stress comes from not being in control, things have been taken out of our hands and so I did the only thing I could do, I prayed. I found myself however praying the same things again and again, as if the more I said it the more likely God would hear and just in case he wasn't paying attention the first time. However what God really wants us to do is take it to him and leave it, trust him that he will hear, act in whatever way, and be with us whatever the outcome, and I came to realise that nagging like an impatient child would not change anything.

Waiting is always a strain, but resting in God is a whole different issue.
