8 June 2009 Twitter

When Hugh Laurie was interviewed by Jonathan Ross on Friday night, he was asked whether he went on twitter, and his reply was that he preferred to shh and not press the send button.
I know what he means, there is just so much noise all the time that silence really does seem golden.

Each day when I walk the dog through the fields and can hear only the right kind of twitter from our feathered friends I can feel myself become calmer and peaceful and most importantly,it gives me time to be still and remember that God is God.

I often think on Elijah on the mountain top listening for the voice of God, which did not come in the earthquake , or the wind or the fire, but arrived in a small voice of calm- we need to stop twittering sometimes and listen for the still small voice of calm.

"Then the Lord passed by and sent a furious wind that split the hills and shattered the rocks-but the Lord was not in the wind. The wind stopped blowing, and then there was an earthquake- but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire-but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the soft whisper of a voice."
