2 June 2009 Listen

Last night I attempted to help my eldest daughter with her revision for a Maths test. I say attempted for two reasons, one it is a very long time since I explored the complexities of trigonometry, and in truth it was no more enjoyable this time around than it was 30 years ago, and secondly because she was sitting at her desk but mentally in another country. So it didn't work, after half an hour we were no further forward and both concluded it was best left to another time.

Communication as we learnt is a two way process, the communicator has to know what he or she is talking about and be able to express it appropriately, and the person on the listening end has to, well , hear.

I am sure God tries to talk to me all the time, helping me with my choices, guiding my decisions and pointing out people who might need my help, but I am equally sure that I am rarely listening. Either too busy or too tired or too caught up doing things "My Way"
As I left my student with the remark," until you listen you won't learn anything" I could feel it come straight back at me.

And Jesus concluded, "Listen, then, if you have ears!" Luke 8 vs 8
