11 May 2009 Aware
On Friday I listened to a programme where Terry Waite, and John
McCarthy discussed and shared a little of their experiences as hostages
in Lebanon. I was interested in one of the phrases they talked about
that they lived for four years in a state of heightened awareness.
In their case this was presumably this was a necessity for their survival, but in happier circumstances heightened awareness might not be a bad thing. Everyday I walk through the fields with the dog, and if I choose to pay attention, to be aware, I am surrounded by a beautiful sounds, birds singing, trees blowing in the wind, animals rustling in the undergrowth. The smells too at this time of year, of new growth and blossom, of damp after the rainfall.
When I wake up and become aware, I am everywhere witnessing the glory of God, but too often it all passes me by as I go through the day immersed in my own head.
God is all around us, we just need to look.
