8 May 2009 Tomorrow

When we say the Lord's prayer, we use the words,
"Give us this day our daily bread"

For most of us though that is not how we really live. We have planners and diaries filled ahead, and likewise our worries and fears stretch way into the future. Yesterday I became the mother of a teenager as my eldest turned thirteen. The night before I tossed and turned thinking what this would mean, and in my head I had all sorts of scenarios of what might happen in the years to come.
My husband wisely reminded me  however how worried I had been  about her taking a bottle, going to nursery, to playgroup, starting school, moving countries and each of these stages we have passed through and survived.

Jesus reminded us that  if we waste today worrying about the future we will miss the absolute joy of this moment, now. And so we pray for what we need today and  leave tomorrow's concerns for another day.

"So do not worry about tomorrow, it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings." Matthew 6 vs 34
