27 April 2009 Coming home
Yesterday was a big day in our family, we took our puppy a walk across
the fields near us and for the first time let it off the lead. Now when
you have not had a dog before this is rather scary and we dreaded that
she might run off and never come back. However I don't think I will
forget the joy the seeing her run through the fields and then turn and
come right back. I was quite emotional, and began thinking about how
one day our children would also leave (hopefully not running quite as
fast) and scary though that will be, we will also experience the joy of
them coming back.
When God first created humans, he let us go. He gave us this whole world to roam in and freedom of choice to do what we wanted sadly too many of us just keep walking and never turn back to him, but he waits like I did yesterday with love and hope and his joy when we turn back is complete.
My daughter shared with me some song lyrics that described this very well
"You can change your hair, you can change your clothes, you can change your mind, thats just the way it goes, but you'll always find your way back home."
Jesus puts it like this:
In the same way I tell you there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine respectable people who do not need to repent."
Luke 15 vs 7
