8 April 2009 Moses

Moses has a remarkable story, pulled from the river as a baby and brought up in the courts of Pharaoh until he kills an Egyptian and is forced to flee.

God however has a monumental task ahead for Moses, God has heard his people crying and promises to lead them out of bondage to a new land. A whole people encaptured by  the most powerful nation on earth, yet they are to be led to freedom- another impossible task, all the more so when it is put into the hands of Moses by his own admission "a nobody."

Despite Moses' reluctance however the story is so well known we take it for granted, he leads his people out of Egypt, across the Red Sea, gives them laws to live by which still form the basis of our laws today, and leads them to the promised land. God keeps his promises.

Jesus laid on Peter the task of building his church, Peter who blustered, who spoke first and thought later, who denied Jesus when he most needed to stand by him. Yet Peter came through, preaching and spreading the Gospel, building the church which has grown and spread through the centuries.
God keeps his promises

"I have indeed heard the cry of my people, and I see how the Egyptians are oppressing them. Now I am sending you to the King of Egypt so that you can lead my people out of his country."
Genesis 3 vs 9-10
